Dutch pitchers dominate in a win against Germany, recording nine strikeouts

The Netherlands won their last game of the IV WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup on Saturday, beating Germany 3-0. Three Dutch pitchers combined for nine strikeouts in the victory.

In the second inning, Jeandro Tromp tried to score for the Netherlands after Delano Selassa reached on an infield single. Brandon Schrepf made an outstanding throw from center field to tag out runner Matt Kemp.
After three scoreless innings, the Netherlands finally got on the board in the bottom of the fourth when Van Borkulo reached on a walk and later scored on a double by Delano Selassa to left center.
Shervyen Newton hit a double down the right field line in the fifth inning, moved to third on Tommy Van De Sanden’s single, and scored on a balk. Adding to the Netherlands’ three-run advantage, Van De Sanden knocked in a runner.
A total of six German pitchers, including starter Florian Kawczynski, took the mound in this game; they were Giraud, Ira Clifton, Noah Lindt, Christoph Ehrich, and Simon Baumer. In comparison, the Netherlands only used three pitchers.
Aaron De Groot, Kevin Bakker, and Jefrem Leon combined for nine strikeouts and just three hits allowed by Germany. Two more strikeouts by Leon finished the game.

Both the Netherlands and Venezuela ended the Placement Round with a 4-1 record, while Puerto Rico concluded with a 1-4 record.
